I can sit on my swing and close my eyes and just listen to them talking back and forth. They're also really neat to talk to, because they don't ever judge your shit, and they listen really well. They can live for up to 17 years, too; although, most of that time is spent brooding underground. This year *should* be a heavy cicada year, because the 17-year cycle is up. I don't remember the cicadas 17 years ago, but I'm super excited to see them all everywhere. There's a tropical storm blowing up from Florida, and it's rockin' the little guys pretty bad. Some of them have taken shelter on my porch, chillin' with me as I watch the storm and the curls of smoke around my fingertips. I like them the best. They're the smart ones, and I've got a lot of faith in them this year.
